John Rockwell is an experienced jury trial lawyer, who brings over 14 years experience in a variety of practice areas as a Florida attorney to Woolsey Morcom.
John has successfully tried to verdict over 50 criminal jury trials as a former prosecutor at the 4th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office handling criminal cases in Duval and Nassau County for almost five years. He was ultimately promoted to the Major Crimes division where he handled homicide matters from initial crime scene response to jury trial, including first degree murder cases in which the State of Florida sought the death penalty. John also has substantial experience successfully defending individuals accused of committing crimes, and in handling post conviction and appellate matters.
After graduating from the University of Miami School of Law with cum laude honors in 2004, John practiced at several law firms throughout Florida, including a large national law firm in downtown Jacksonville where he handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters including construction defect, foreclosure, real estate, medical malpractice, products liability, and nursing home matters in both state and federal court, as well as criminal defense and post conviction relief matters.
For the past 6 years, John has worked in the insurance claims industry as a claims attorney, where he adjusted multi-million dollar complex construction defect and commercial general liability insurance coverage matters in and outside of Florida for one of the country’s largest insurance companies, as well as real estate title insurance coverage claims for a national title insurance underwriter. In this role, John learned how insurance companies think and evaluate claims.
John recently joined Woolsey Morcom to lead the firm’s growing criminal defense practice.
